KARACHI: Finance adviser Shaukat Tareen Sunday hinted that petrol will become more expensive as the Pakistani rupee continues to depreciate against the US dollar.

While talking to the media in Karachi, Shaukat Tareen predicted that if global [oil] prices go up, then petrol will also become more expensive in Pakistan.

He said that the ‘satta mafia’ was involved in the depreciation of the rupee. The dollar is being smuggled to Afghanistan and the government is going to tighten the noose around the mafia.

The adviser said that the government is working on a long-term strategy to strengthen the national economy on a sustainable basis.

The Advisor on Finance said all matters with IMF will be settled soon.

Transporters increase fares

After an increase in the prices of petroleum (POL) products, the local transporters in Faisalabad has increased fares from Rs20 to reach Rs30 within the city, while transportation fares from Faisalabad to other cities were also raised.

It has been reported that from Faisalabad to Lahore, the transportation fare is increased from Rs200 to reach Rs250. The fare from Faisalabad to Sialkot is reached from Rs350 to reach Rs450.

The fare from Faisalabad to Multan is reached from Rs500 to Rs650. The fare from Faisalabad to Rawalpindi is reached from Rs600 to reach Rs700. The fare from Faisalabad to Sialkot has increased from Rs350 to reach Rs450. The fare from Faisalabad to Jhang has gone up from Rs110 to Rs150.

On the other hand, transporters said that the price of POL products has increased so much that they were forced to raise fares because they have to meet the expenses.
