Imran Khan injured in firing incident during PTI long march

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and several other PTI leaders were injured after an armed man opened fire on the container near the reception camp at Allahwala Chowk Wazirabad during long march.

The firing took place at Imran Khan’s container in which Faisal Javed, Ahmed Nasir Chattha and other party leaders were injured. They were immediately shifted to local hospital for medical assistance.

Talking exclusively to media persons, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar confirmed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan was injured in a targeted attack during long march.

“Imran Khan is being shifted to Lahore for medical treatment,” said Asad Umar, adding that other PTI leaders including Senator Faisal Javed, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Ahmed Chatta and Umar Dar were also injured as a result of firing during PTI long march.

Sources said the person who fired the gunshots has been arrested.

PM summons report

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the firing incident and sought a report from Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

PM Shehbaz also directed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Inspector General Punjab Police Faisal Shahkar and Chief Secretary Punjab to submit report immediately.

Later, in a tweet, Rana Sanaullah also condemned the attack on the PTI chairman and directed the chief secretary and IGP Punjab to submit a report of the incident.

“A report of the firing incident has also been sought from the federal security agencies,” the tweet read further.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal has also condemned the incident.

In his tweet, the minister said, “Thank God Imran Niazi is safe,” adding that there is no room for violence in politics.
